Can Social Media Really Be SIMPLE?

Making Social Simple… Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, that’s the goal and I’m looking forward to helping small businesses achieve it in 2019!

Ultimately, with a little bit of knowledge and some simple social media tips, I am certain that every small business can learn enough to run their own social media to efficiently engage more customers to grow their business.

First though, a bit of a reality check before this takes a ‘too good to be true’ feel. Here it is:

SIMPLE does not necessarily mean EASY.

NOW WAIT… Before you click away thinking “I told you so… it is too good to be true”, let me explain because I’ve absorbed the pain of the challenges to be able to make it easy for you!

My Early Days in Social Media

I first started using social media to drive website traffic about 10 years ago. I was an early adopter of Facebook and Twitter for a site I created that was a nationwide directory of over 1,200 small businesses that happened to be race tracks (RacingIn.com). Over those 10 years, as you can see from my picture, I’ve pulled out a lot of my hair. It wasn’t easy, and that’s the truth.  But I figured it out one step at a time and grew a knack for driving web traffic, engaging customers, and building followers.

Over time, I read a lot and I analyzed a lot more! Web traffic patterns and analytics reports were strewn across my desk. I read about Facebook, Twitter, AdWords, and every other ‘social network of the moment’.  Different tactics were tried proving some worked great and others worked horribly! As I went along, I took A LOT of notes!

Over time, I realized that every time I learned the same lesson:  Whenever I faced a challenge, the solution ended up being a lot simpler than I thought it would be! And I moved on adding followers, engaging more customers, and generating more website visits.

I’ll be honest… I’m kind of a marketing geek and seeing that success was exciting to me.

Here’s where it hit me!

Over the past year or so, I’ve been talking with a lot of different small business owners.  We’d talk about social media and they’d explain to me their challenges. As I talked to more small business owners, I realized that they’re going through the EXACT SAME CHALLENGES I have. As I shared my experiences, it seemed to help them. And to me, that was just as exciting as conquering the challenges on my own!

And THAT is how Making Social Simple was born!

Social Media really is pretty simple once the fears are erased and the solutions are explained. And that is what I can’t wait to do for as many small businesses as possible!
